"Wine is not everything in life, but everything is nothing without wine."


Following his engagement as the editor of various daily newspapers, Rudi Knoll, who was born in 1947 in Munich, moved into the field of wine journalism. From 1980 to 1984 he was Chief Editor of the magazine Weinfreund before becoming Editor of the wine magazine Vinum for Germany, Austria and Eastern Europe, a position he still holds today.

Knoll has written more than 40 books about wine and founded significant competitions such as the “Deutsche Rotweinpreis”, the “Riesling-Champion” and the “Genossenschaftscup”. He has been awarded numerous prizes including the Steinfeder-Preis of Wachau for wine journalism in 1993, the Trophy of the Deutsche Prädikatsweingüter (VDP) for his services to German wine in 2004 as well as the Staufer-Medaille of the land of Baden-Württemberg for his engagement for German red wine (2007).
